Most Dangerous Cities in America

Streetlight at NightIf anyone watched David Letterman the other night, he commented on New York City's low ranking on the list of the most dangerous cities in America, placing at #269, which according to these stats means that NYC is safer than Seattle (# 157), San Francisco (# 130), and Los Angeles, (# 158).

To help you sort through the numbers, we've compiled a listing of the top 5 most dangerous cities with some relevant stats for your consideration. Just keep in mind that maybe Dave's right: maybe it is that rowdy gang of Clydesdales that are responsible for the number one city's ranking of the most dangerous city in America.

Moving? How to Find the Perfect Neighborhood

NeighborhoodWhether buying or renting, if you're like me, a neighborhood has to feel right and be right for your particular needs. And this can change as you get older, have a family or return to a single life.

So, before you move research your options; get to know the area, spend some time on its streets, in its cafes and strolling along its sidewalks. Just like any relationship, feel it out before you move just to make sure it's a good fit.

Besides, you may just discover the best cappuccino or fresh baked croissants or the prettiest park in the city. And that in itself is worth all the research.

A Checklist for International Moves

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my sister and her husband are on their way to Mexico, driving with their two dogs, one cat and a car-full of their worldly possessions.

They've been hit by Karl (the hurricane), given wrong directions several times and are having a difficult time finding pet-friendly accommodation despite hotel websites claiming they love dogs. Of course, this is just the start of their international story.

For anyone contemplating a move overseas, use this checklist as a guide to help you through a complicated move. It might not be able to predict Karl, but it will ensure you're thinking of all the possible pitfalls!

Move an Armoire or Heavy Cabinet

Once during a self-move, I thought I'd cut some corners (literally) when it came time to move some of the larger pieces of furniture, including a wardrobe that I'd stripped and repainted the previous summer. I thought I could get away with moving it just as it was, clothes and shoes still in place. What I discovered was, cabinets, wardrobes and armoires tip over really easily, and corners chip and doors break off and clothes end up in mud puddles in the middle of the street.

I was young. That's my only defense.

Cabinets and wardrobes all require a little bit of TLC. It's not that they're complicated or even very fragile, it's more that they deserve some extra care when considering how to pack and move them.

Green Moving Tips

Moving can have a huge impact on our ecological footprint - all those boxes and tape and packing paper that end up in the trash, never mind the long-distance hauls and all those emissions.

Trying to move while being aware of how to limit your contribution to waste does take a little extra planning and preparation; in the end, however, it can save you money and will definitely make you feel better that you've helped the environment - a win-win situation for everyone.

What If I'm Moving Just One Room?

She's afraid that her lack of "stuff" will make it difficult to hire movers to help her get to her new home.

There are probably lots of people in this situation - young adults moving out on their own for the first time, seniors who may be moving in with family, students moving to and from a dorm, or like our reader who is simply looking to move from a one-room home to a two-bedroom apartment.

While some movers prefer to move large households (i.e., bigger contracts), there are lots of companies who'll be more than willing to move smaller places. You just need to know how to find them. Learn more.

Pack and Move Your Home Office

If your house is anything like ours, the home office often becomes the place where household items are temporarily stored, like the extra books and back issues of magazines that don't really fit anywhere else. Soon, the office starts looking more like the inside of a storage locker than a place where work is conducted.

To get this space organized and ready for moving, there are a few steps you can take so this task doesn't seem so overwhelming. Check out this guide to preparing your home office, including sorting your records and files.

Rogue Movers in the News Again

While the student is still waiting for a happy ending, he sleeps on an air mattress and hopes that the money he paid upfront to the moving company will not be lost.

It's an all too-familiar story, one that I've personally experienced myself. It's easy to say that the French student should have done his "homework", but it's not always that simple. The lesson of the day, and one we talk about a lot on this website, is this: do everything you can to protect yourself, including doing your research, checking a mover's registration number, logging into moving forums (like our's!) and knowing what to look for in a rogue mover.

This is the best way to protect yourself and to ensure that when you wave goodbye to the truck, you'll be seeing your things again at your new home.

If you have a story to share about a moving company you've used, check out our reader's response form. You don't need to be a member to participate. It's easy, fast and you'll be helping others by sharing your experience of a moving company - good or bad.

Moving Tips - Choosing a Moving Company

Comments (0)

Moving to a new home can be stressful. You have to pack the truck, hope that nothing gets broken during the drive, unpack the truck, and carry heavy furniture and boxes into your new home. Professional movers can take much of the stress out of moving day, but it is important to choose an experienced and reliable moving company. These tips will help you know what to look for when searching for a good moving company.

Get References - If any of your friends, neighbors, or coworkers have used a professional moving company in the past year, ask them about their experiences. A real estate agent may also be able to provide valuable references. Recent recommendations are best, as a company's personnel and quality may change over time. Check Credentials - After you have narrowed down your selection of moving companies, check their licensing and credentials online. Any moving company carrying goods over state lines should be licensed by the Department of Transportation. For both local and interstate moves, check the Better Business Bureau website. Don't worry too much about a single complaint; look for recurring problems. Get Estimates - Always ask for in-home estimates. Most companies also offer online or phone estimates, which are certainly more convenient, but they are not very reliable. Make sure to get estimates from several different companies. This will give you a better range of prices to compare, and will give you a chance to meet some of the movers you may end up working with. If possible, see if you can get a "Binding Not to Exceed" estimate, which limits the maximum price you can be expected to pay.

Pricing is an important consideration when choosing a moving company, but it is not the only factor to consider. Keep in mind that you are trusting these people with nearly all of your possessions; reliability and quality may be more important than price alone.

How to Make Moving Easier

Comments (0)

Moving to a new house is always a pain because there are so many different things that need to be accounted for as you are busy packing boxes and loading trucks up to travel across towns and states. More often than not you come across things you never thought you would see again and you are not sure whether or not to keep them such as the infamous piano dolly. Most times these items are passed down through generations, a whole slew of piano dollies, that you feel bad getting rid of because they have sentimental value. Holding onto these items increases the number of boxes you have to account for and increases the number of trips you will have to make from your old house to your new house. However, by following these simple instructions, you can make moving less stressful, regardless of the number of sentimental things you keep.

The first thing you need to do is put a cap on the number of things you can keep based on how much room is in the house. Make sure that everyone in the family knows the limit and how much each of them can bring so that you do not over pack. This will force you to throw some things that you do not need away but it will be better for you and your family in the long run because you will not have as many boxes and you will have more room in the new house to rearrange things around.

Also, when you are packing up the truck, make sure you put the smaller things in the back and the furniture that will need to go out first in the front, near the door. This will make it easier when you get to the new house because you will be able to put the furniture in first. Likewise, some helpers can only stay for so long so if you can get the heavier stuff into the house first, you will have them to help you. Once you have the furniture in, you will know how much room there is really going to be for the rest of your things and you can plan accordingly.

Lastly, label the boxes as you pack them so that there is not a mad scramble near the end to figure out where everything is going to go. Try to be as specific as you can when you are labeling so you can put the boxes in the appropriate rooms and then when the time comes to go through the boxes and put things away, you will not have a difficult time.

In the end, moving is stressful and time-consuming but you can cut down on both the stress and the time spent moving but organizing things as you go and before the big moving day. Moving is all about planning and orchestrating that plan to the best of your ability so that the new house can eventually become a home for your family.

10 Tips For a Cheaper Move

Comments (0)

Moving is a huge process which drains time, energy and - most regretfully - money. Costs can soar when you're planning your move, and you'll find that you're spending money on everything from the removalist to the hurried and tired takeaways for dinner. Who wouldn't appreciate a little help on monetary matters during this stressful and expensive time? The ten tips below outline some ideas to get your brain moving when it comes to moving:

1. Start early. Time is money, or rather: Time is saving money. Chances are you'll know well in advance when you're moving, even if you don't know the exact date so start gathering boxes. The more you do at this end the less time will be needed on the day - and that makes a huge difference for those you may be paying by the hour.

2. Budget for the move. Budgets can be impossible to stick with, so do some research with this one to make sure you don't go too far off-track. Ring around to find the most attractive price on your essential expenses - movers, babysitters, etc. - and add a little extra for those little unforeseen costs.

3. Find the right movers. Moving companies will often aim for a particular niche. The same company that moved your office may not be so cost-effective, nor efficient at moving delicate personal objects. Look for a company that appeals specifically to you and your budget.

4. Quality over thrifty. You're trying to save money, sure, but don't go for a dodgy mover just save a few dollars. Your possessions are precious and that should be respected by the mover. Try to find a happy medium - you need the right price but you also need to know that your belongings will get to your new home safely.

5. Schedule your move. Make up a plan to pack up your belongings - from least to most essential - and stick to it. This can be as drawn out or as short as you like, and you can customize it to fit around your day.

6. Have a garage or yard sale. With what you sell versus what you spend on moving, you may find that you make a profit.Give away what you don't need (or can't sell). De-cluttering and cleansing yourself of all your excess belongings can be invigorating. The less you have to move the less you'll have to spend moving it.

7. Free boxes. Most removals can provide you with boxes - for a price. Scope out local bookstores, supermarkets and cafes for quality boxes and cardboard packing materials.

8. Call in those favors. Your friends and family can provide cheap muscle, babysitting, pet-sitting and a number of other services for nothing (or for the cost of their lunch). Heavy lifting or delicate objects should always be left to the professionals, lest your friendship be strained by the breaking of an heirloom.

9. Get your utilities sorted out. Walk in to your new house with the power, water, and gas, phone, Internet and Pay TV already working. Make sure you leave a margin of error to get everything working on time, as we all know utilities companies can take their time.

10. Creative packing. You shouldn't have to buy bubble wrap or foam, use your t-shirts to pack that glassware! Packing up fragile objects with your bedsheets and clothes is both cost-effective and easier to document - you'll know which wine glasses were wrapped in which towel.

You don't need to dread the moving day, and it doesn't need to cost the world. All it takes is a little planning and advice to add some thrift and style to your moving day. De-clutter your life, sell what you don't need, find free boxes, call in your favors and get creative. You might even find it fun.

Moving Companies - Should I Move in the Summer?

Comments (0)

Most family moves take place during the summer. This is because the summer is most convenient time for a family to move. Parents prefer to wait until after the school year is over before moving their families. The kids are out of school, parents on vacation and college students are on summer break.

At first glance, this makes a lot of sense. Let them finish the school year in their familiar and comfortable surroundings. What parent would want to disrupt their child's routine before the summer holidays have begun?

However, there are 3 major disadvantages to moving during the summer. Most people do not take them into consideration when the plan a move.

1. Summer is a busiest moving season. Prices are at their peak. Movers are aware that most families prefer to move in the summer. It's the only time when families can plan to move. Many movers double or even triple the price of moving during the summer.

For example, for a typical one bedroom home being moved from New York to California during the slow season for moving (that's October-December and February-April) would cost approximately $1500-$1700. During the summer peak season, the prices for the exact same move will range from $2500 to $3000.

If you are moving in the summer, our best advice is to book early as possible. In fact, book it during the off season, during the middle of the winter when prices are very low and moving companies are planning ahead.

2. Since the summer is the busiest season, movers might not be 100% dedicated to your needs. This is because movers can be like the airlines. They often overbook and that is more work than they can handle.

The best solution to this problem is to schedule and book your move some months in advance. Most moving companies will piggy back with each other and share trucks to fill up space. This way you will be first in line for the truck and for the moving dates you want.. The moving trucks schedule will be built around your needs.

3. Your move can turn into a stressful experience. The summer is a busiest season for moving. Many movers tend to hire extra help during the summer. Many of these people have little to no experience in moving. This can cause a verity of problems during your move.

In fact, most complaints about moving are from consumers that moved in the summer. They had a terrible moving experience that was avoidable.

The most common complaints about moving include:

A. Pick ups and drop offs of a customers belongings days or even weeks late.
B. Damage to furniture and belongings by movers. Many of these movers had little or no insurance coverage and very little experience moving.
C. Outrageously high bills from scam moving companies who take advantage of consumers desperate to move during this period of time.
D. There are even some cases where movers disappeared with the customers' money and their belongings were never picked up at all.

When you move, there are many factors to consider. They include money saving options available to you. Most of all consider it will to your benefit for you to move.

How Many Packing Boxes Do I Need?

Comments (0)

There are no hard and fast rules for deciding on the number of boxes, there are some guidelines you can use to arrive at a fairly good estimate.

First is the kitchen. The kitchen tends to be the biggest consumer of packing boxes due to the sheer volume of items it contains. The fragile nature of dishes and glass also means we pack less per box. A good guideline for the kitchen is to take an hour or so to rearrange all your cupboards so that all similar items are grouped together. Then count on one box for every cupboard. If your flatware is on the heavier side, you may need an extra box.

In the bedrooms, you won't need packing boxes for clothes normally stored in the dresser. They can stay right in the drawers throughout the move. Plan for at least one wardrobe box per adult family member, more if your closets are bigger. A good guideline is to have one wardrobe box for every closet bar up to three feet long. Remember, for moving purposes you can pack your clothes a little bit tighter in a wardrobe box than you would in a closet. You also don't necessarily need to box things like heavy winter coats.

For the rest of the house, assuming you have an average amount of belongings, figure on three medium-sized boxes and one large one per room. It's probably a good idea to limit the number of large or bulky packing boxes as much as possible. They are more difficult to move and pose a greater risk of back injury.

Moving? Use These Pro Packing Tips for a Hassle-Free Move

Comments (0)

Packing for a move is a big challenge, and knowing how to do so efficiently will go a long way toward reducing your stress and allowing for a hassle-free move at both ends. The following tips are offered from a former Realtor, to help you pack well for moving.

Pare down: The first thing to consider is that this packing time comes with an opportunity. Like many people, you may have been accumulating 'stuff' for quite some time, and moving is the perfect time to do some evaluating. Because you already have to go through all your things anyway, you have a rare chance to look at each item objectively and make decisions as to whether they are useful to you and if you really want them. For all the items that are no longer really useful or loved by you, there are people who will consider them treasures. If you donate your used goods to a second-hand organization such as the Salvation Army, you will be giving other people the chance to use and enjoy them. The added bonus will be less to pack and unpack for you, and more room at your new home.

Boxes: If you do a little research, you can find moving boxes without paying a fortune. Costco and many food stores, for instance, have used boxes they just give away to anyone who wants them, and searching

Essential Supplies for Moving

Comments (0)

Some people are experts at moving. For the rest of us, it is an intimidating and terrifying process. Most people get overwhelmed by looking at the big picture of how much work they have to accomplish. Breaking any big job into smaller, bite size steps makes it easier and less stressful to achieve. Here are the basic supplies you will need on hand for packing.

Boxes are of course the most obvious item you will need to move. Several companies sell boxes of all shapes and sizes if you prefer to have new boxes. Or, if you are on a budget, you can check Craigslist.com for people who have recently moved and are either selling their boxes at a reduced rate or giving them away for free. Bookstores, liquor stores, and grocery stores are another possible source of free boxes. Bookstore boxes are typically smaller, sturdier, and have easily accessible handles because they are designed for holding heavy materials. Liquor store boxes often have dividers which make them perfect for packing glasses or other breakable knick knacks. Grocery store boxes, especially the kind used by the produce and meat department are reinforced and have handles to make them easier to carry.

Packing tape and tape dispensers is another necessary piece of equipment for moving. Unless you want to keep track of scissors along with your roll of tape, a packing tape dispenser is an easy and convenient way to pack boxes, particularly if you are packing by yourself. Remember to reinforce the bottoms of your boxes before packing them. There is nothing worse than picking up a full box only to have the bottom fall out! For oddly shaped items, consider using clear plastic garbage bags to easily wrap and pack. Plastic bags can also be used as "filler" or to wrap breakable items. Paper plates work well between china plates. Or you can do what my grandmother did when she moved and wrap all of your glass in your bathroom and kitchen towels.

Most people who move frequently have a system for how they will mark their boxes to make it easier to unpack once they have reached their new home. One of my personal favorites was the color system. Simply put each room gets a color - yellow for the kitchen, green for the bathroom, orange for the living room, etc. This way you know what box goes where and have a much easier time trying to find the coffee maker once you move into your new home. Instead of using stickers or markers that can fall off or be difficult to see, colored ribbon can be a perfect choice to easily mark boxes. Another organization option is to write on each box all of the contents. This is the way my mother packed us up when we moved from the west coast to the east coast. While it was much more work on the west coast end, it did make life much easier once we got to our new destination.

Moving From New Zealand to Australia

Comments (0)

Moving to Australia from New Zealand might seem like a daunting task at first, but if you follow a couple of tips, then the transition will be much smoother.

First, decide whether or not to get an Australian visa. Typically, they are not required. Most New Zealand citizens can live and work in Australia for an indefinite period of time. However, you can apply for one, which will give you the status of an official Australian citizen.

Second, do some research to figure out what's the best deal to convert New Zealand dollars into Australian dollars. Before you even make the move, it would be helpful to set up an Australian bank account. This will minimize the amount of cash that you need to take with you.

Third, research and decide on a place to live. There is often competition among good places, so keep in mind that they will get snapped up quickly. Not only that, but learn and know the Australian tenancy laws. More than likely, each city or town will have a different governing law in regard to tenancy.

Fourth, decide how you are going to move your things. Paying to ship everything will be very expensive. Therefore, research ahead of time to see what your best option is. In the end, you may decide to ship some stuff and buy the rest once you get to Australia.

Fifth, learn about Australia's health care system. Educate yourself about which care will be covered and what will not. Although both Australian and New Zealand citizens fund health care in each country, the systems are still a bit different.

Finally, do your research and shop around. While moving to Australia from New Zealand is never a cheap exercise, doing your research could save you thousands and make your transition much smoother.

Finding a Professional Furniture Removalist When Moving to a New Home

Comments (0)

Deciding to move to a new place is one thing, but actually doing so is quite stressful, especially if you've got a lot of stuff to move out and move in to your new home.

The question that repeatedly pops into your head is: how in heaven's name do I get to ensure all of my precious things remain intact after removing them all to a new place? What happens to my sofa? My kitchen set? My entertainment equipment? Will all these be handled with care and be as it is in my new home?

Fortunately now, there are several professional furniture removalist companies that are experienced to do the job for you! And with everything being on the internet, it is pretty much convenient to look for a list of furniture removers in Google. In just a click, you can easily find a listing of these companies that you can choose from.

I for one am an expert furniture remover in Sydney. I have done this for quite a long time, but it is just recently that my company decided to make a website to make me and my team accessible to those that need to get their furniture removed to their new home in Sydney.

Removing furniture is not an easy job. When it comes to it, it is really hard to remove your furniture in one place to another. You would need hard-core men and a professional team, with quite an experience, to do all the transferring of large furniture out to another house. It is quite a weary job removing your furniture on your own. Putting things together in removal boxes, wrapping them in plastics, and labeling them into bags is one thing, carrying them all yourself is another. A team of professionals will be needed to carry all these huge furniture from one house to another.

Another important entity you need to consider when removing your furniture is the necessary means of transporting large furniture from your old house to your new home; means that will keep your valuable things from being broken, scratched or destroyed. Would you need a large container van? Would a simple pick-up truck handle it? What would be the cheapest way to transport your furniture to your new home? These queries may pop into your heads when considering for a removalist company.

Therefore, when considering for a professional furniture remover, do ask yourself: What details of removing my furniture do I need? Once this is clear to you, check on the listing from Google and see what these removalist companies has to offer. Can they ensure safety and professionalism in having the details of the job done successfully? Do they know the area, and have the experience to work around the city? If yes, then go for it!

Enjoy your new home!

Moving Supplies - Tall Boxes For Lamps

Comments (0)

A seemingly endless list of moving supplies is required if you need to make a move. You will need packing tape, padding material, box cutters, paper and, of course, boxes. However, you will have to have some rather specific types of boxes to make your move as efficiently as possible. What should you know about moving boxes? The most important consideration is the type of boxes that you obtain, including tall boxes for lamps.

When you plan your move, chances are good that you consider at least three types of boxes: large, medium and small. These sizes give you the ability to pack a variety of different items safely and securely, while ensuring that no box is so heavy and cumbersome that it causes injury. However, chances are good that if you take a look around your living room or bedroom, there will be a couple of items that need boxes, but don't have a home. Your lamps should be boxed for the move, but they cannot really be packed in standard boxes. You need tall boxes for lamps in this instance.

Tall boxes designed specifically to fit lamps offer a number of benefits. First, they are tall, but slender. This ensures that your lamps fit snuggly within the box, without a tremendous amount of room to wiggle and vibrate during transport. Second, these boxes are often designed to accommodate both the lamp and the lampshade. This gives you additional convenience and can help save room in the moving truck, as well.

Tall boxes for lamps can be found through a number of providers. However, buying your moving supplies online can offer some significant benefits and can allow you to save both time and money during your move. Lamp boxes in a variety of sizes can be found through online providers, as well.

WardrobeBoxes.com provides you with the latest information on using tall boxes for lamps and where to find them for moving. WardrobeBoxes.com can help you make your move easier, visit today.

Houston is easily overlooked when considering vacation destinations and relocation, but there's more to this metropolis than meets the eye. Houston has so many jewels it's tough to know where to start exactly.

Let's start with shopping. Houston is home to the world famous Galleria Shopping Center. This grand mall is a small city in itself. It's multi-level, magically lit environment speckled with some of the most amazing fountains around might just fill up your camera before you realize the other half of the mall. Yes, it's just that big. For all you foodies out there, the food court may just give you a heart attack, in a good way and then in the bad way, so try not to eat everything on you first visit.

Going down the same avenue as food, Houston has so many different restaurants serving food from every corner of the world that you'll never get bored of going out to eat. From Asian to Zimbabwean, they have what you're looking for. In fact, there is entire district filled with Indian and Pakistani restaurants, grocery stores, and clothes/jewelry stores, for the adventurous, or curious, types.

Although, Houston is a wonderful place to start and raise a family with it's excellent police force, wonderful schools and even better transit system. We understand that you younger people are looking for a place that's fun, as well as safe. Well there's a place you can go for that, too. That place is Midtown. Midtown is home to so many bars, pubs and clubs, that you could go out every night and have to go to the same place twice in months. The night life in Houston ranges from casual to very posh, so whatever the mood that you're in, there's a place you can go. Recently, the place to be has become Washington Ave, attracting thousands every weekend.

And lastly, for all you fitness nuts out there. There are so many gyms in the city of Houston that if you were to move there, you shouldn't be surprised if you find one, or maybe even two, within walking distance of your apartment.

So, when are you planning to visit/move here?

39 Moves in 20 Years

I came across this article in the New York Daily News about a woman who just completed a memoir entitled: 'No Place Like Home: A Memoir in 39 Apartments'. It's a great look through one woman's experience moving and how unique each home was, yet at the end of the day the author found that home was more about the community, the people she met and her next door neighbors, than the inside space of each apartment.

While I've moved a lot in my life (and am in the midst of planning the next one), I, too, have never felt too much connection to the physical space of the house or apartment, rather, it's always been about where we are - the new experiences and people. And about traveling to new countries, cities and towns, while staying in place for a while.

I'm curious to find out why you move and how many times and where you might be moving next. Share your moving story with us by checking out our reader response form.

Mover Fees and How to Avoid Them

When hiring a moving company, there are some things you need to know before you sign your contract, including extra charges you might be responsible for. One of my first moves, in my early 20s, involved a small upright piano, and while I knew it would be a little awkward to transfer onto the truck, I didn't realize that I'd be charged an additional fee to have it taken to my new home.

So before you're caught off guard by extra charges that tend to add up quickly and that might blow your moving budget, find out what kind of extra services might be charged to you in addition to the cost of your move.

Need Your Opinion of Movers

Many of us hire movers when we move, and in doing so, put everything we own into the hands of strangers. It's a difficult decision - which movers to hire - and while there are many ways to research a company, you never really know how things will turn out until the move is over. And once the move is over, there's often little opportunity to provide feedback.

Until now.

We'd like to hear your opinion about a moving company you've used, be it good or bad. You'll also have the chance to rate the mover and let others know your moving story.

How to Budget Moving In Costs

So you're preparing for a move, and to cut down on moving costs, you scale down your belongings to just the essentials. But what happens when you arrive at your new, stripped-down home to discover you may have been a little too efficient? What will be the real cost of your move when you finally replace those items you left behind?

When budgeting your move, take all costs into consideration. It's incredible how much your budget increases when adding in the amount you'll spend to set-up new utilities, register your vehicle in a new state and restock your pantry. So carefully weigh (literally) your decision whether to include that jar of oregano or the toothbrush holder before you leave them behind.

Can You Trust Your Mover?

All moving companies are not created equal. Shirley from Washington made this discovery when she moved to another state. Now, as they prepare for yet another move, they're worried about hiring another company.

Like Shirley, we found out the hard way that some moving companies are not reputable. In the end, we did manage to get our damaged goods back, but it took the police, an enthusiastic television crew and our determined efforts to do it - a situation no one should experience.

So look for these signs of a rogue mover and make sure your household goods arrive safely at your new home.

How to Submit an Insurance Claim

What happens after you move and you discover that some of your things are damaged? While making an insurance claim isn't easy, and it can take a lot of patience and persistence, just remember that if your goods were packed well, then the moving company is responsible for breaks, lost items or any other damage that occurs during the move.

Find out how to make a claim and if your move was properly insured.

Why You Should Retire Overseas

My sister and her husband are in an enviably situation: they're semi-retiring overseas. Well, Mexico, actually. They're selling everything they own, leaving the grown kids behind and packing up their laptops, some clothing, two dogs and one cat then heading south.

Doing more research on the topic of retiring overseas, I came across a lot of blogs devoted to the subject, written mostly by retirees who're offering advice for the less-adventurous. Since it seems to be a growing phenomena, I thought we should add our own article to the list. So, according to my sister and other retirees I know, here are the main reasons to retire in another country.

Make sure that the international shipping company offers you best quality shipping services that relieve you from all worries and tensions otherwise involved while moving your household goods from one country to another.

Tip#2 - The cost of shipment charged should not be high. Under usual circumstances, the cost of shipping includes basic charges for fuel and the transportation of goods and nothing more. In this way, you'd get the freedom to choose, and opt for the services that you require, and which will be paid by your company, in case you are transferring goods on the expenses of your company.

Tips on How to Cope With the Stress of Moving Away

Comments (0)

Here are a few tips you can use to reduce the stress and anxiety that comes with moving:

Realize that moving is an opportunity - to experience new things, meet new people, and see other parts of the world. If you are moving to a different country, you may end up learning all about a new and exciting culture and language. Moving to a completely different place - from a small town to a large city, or vice-versa, allows us to taste a different lifestyle. New is exciting. You are starting with a blank slate - all the errors you've made and bad reputations you may have are gone. Moving is the start of a new chapter in your life, one which you can write at your will. You may be worried because you don't know anyone, but this actually will prove to be an advantage, which brings me to the next point:People will notice you - whether at school, at work, or in the neighborhood, the newcomer will always get everyone's interest. This may allow you to do a variety of things, including making many new friends attracting the opposite sex, or getting away with things simply by feigning ignorance.Your true friends will not disappear - keeping in touch today has never been easier. With Voice Over IP (Skype, Vonage, etc), video chatting, and social media networks, it is easy to communicate and stay up today with your friends, whether they live in China or Sweden. Despite having lost touch for over 6 years, I reconnected and still keep in touch with a very good friend I haven't seen since 5th grade! Moving back is often an option - Such a big life change may seem intimidating because we don't know how things may turn out. Moving, unlike many life changes, is often reversible. If after much time and thinking you realize that you would rather live where you did before, you can always trace back your steps.

Arie Litovsky is the author of the website his site CopeWithMoving.com where he write about dealing with this life-changing experience.
